RV Insurance Solutions: What it Covers

Liability

Liability

The Quebec Automobile Insurance Act mandates at least $50,000 worth of civil liability coverage, which can protect you against liability claims if you are held responsible for the injury or property damage of another party, but it is highly recommended you extend this amount to around $1,000,000 or $2,000,000 liability.

Comprehensive & Collision

Comprehensive & Collision

Comprehensive and collision coverage are optional to purchase, just as they are with any vehicle insurance, but can come in great help if your vehicle is damaged or destroyed due to a collision with another vehicle or object or if it is damaged or destroyed as a result of a storm, fire, vandalism, or even theft.

Accident Benefits

Accident Benefits

This coverage included with your standard RV insurance offers compensation for rehabilitative treatments and medical costs in the event of your unexpected injury, as well as any additional loss of income or funeral costs as a result of disability or death due to an insured accident.

Do I need RV insurance?

Civil liability insurance is required for all RVs in Quebec. Provincial government mandates a minimum of at least $50,000 in civil liability insurance for all RVs, which covers you in Canada and in the United States. However, other coverage is optional. That being said, it is highly recommended you carry other coverages - like comprehensive, collision/upset, etc. to cover your recreational vehicle from potential damages.

RV Insurance in Quebec: Frequently Asked Questions

A: RV insurance rates are generally based upon the make and model of your specific vehicle, in addition to its year and class. Premiums may also be influenced by your personal driving record, how often it is used, what it is used for, where it is stationed permanently (if anywhere), and your insurance history. You may find that deductibles for RV insurance are higher than that of deductibles for car insurance.

A: RV insurance, depending on the exact coverage options you choose, may cover collision exposures, comprehensive damages, extended liability, emergency roadside expenses, travel costs, and more. Standard RV insurance is required under the Quebec Automobile Insurance Act and must be comprised of a minimum of $50,000, which offers coverage for circumstances where your vehicle sustains damages as a result of a collision with another vehicle or if you are held liable for damages or bodily injury.

A: There is no “one” answer to this question as RV insurance needs vary from driver to driver and what works for one RV may not work for another. Here at LMBF, we believe that the best RV insurance is the policy that best meets your needs for the most affordable cost. Some providers may offer more or fewer coverage options or may price differently.

A: Full-time RV insurance is an optional endorsement or coverage option to insure those who use their RV as a permanent residence - or for a residence for more than six months out of the year. Full-time RV insurance goes above and beyond ordinary RV insurance and covers drivers for liabilities, losses, and injuries around their RV. It can include personal liability, medical payments, and loss assessment, which have fuller coverage than part-time RV insurance and cover the driver and their passengers for longer.

A: Mostly, yes - awning damage will be covered by your RV insurance, although note that awning damage from some exposures may be subject to a separate deductible. Awning damage will generally be covered so long as the damage resulted from an insurable peril.

A: Not all water damage is included with your RV insurance. Common exclusions will typically include wear and damages, accumulation of snow, water leakage, freezing temperatures, manufacturer defects, etc. Say, for example, you have comprehensive coverage and a storm causes your window to break and rainwater leaks in, causing damages. In this case, your RV insurance may cover you. Some instances of water damage where the water loss that occurred was sudden and accidental may be covered.
